GDC has Ended
Today was the last day of GDC. I learned some new multiplayer level design techniques from some of the peeps at Epic, it was, for a lack of better term, epic. I also made some contacts at Eidos and got some portfolio feed back. I know you guys were hoping for some pix today but we'll, I still don't have access to a computer until Monday so I'll have some pix for you then :-)

Something New from GDC
OK everyone, I'm at GDC and I'm trying something new. I am writing this from my CM7 Kindle Fire! I know, I know, not that impressive but still, it's a new one for me. Today I am going to the Level Design in a Day presentation. The line up of speakers is Ed Byrne from Imba, Neil Alphonso from Splash Damage, Jim Brown from Epic, Joel Burgess from Bethesda, Seth Marinello from Visceral, Matthias Worch from Lucas, and finally Coray Seifert from Slingo. I'll be watching these talks from 10am to 6pm pst. Today should be a fun fun day!
PS. I'll be posting lots and lots of pictures later today and during the rest of the week.
UPDATE: So it turns out I left my cable for my camera at home. So, there will be lots of photos next week. PLUS I'll give my wrapup of the conference as a whole.

Fiction? Almost.
It's always nice to play a game or watch a movie and see a place that is beyond creepy as hell. If there's anything better than that, it may be the fact that some of these settings are actually based on real places. Cracked.com tells us about 6 Fictional Places You Didn't Know Actually Existed, including Arkham Asylum, Middle Earth, and Silent Hill. I know what you're thinking: finally a place to do all those movie scene re-enactments. Just watch out for monsters.

Knitted Illusion [video]
As an occasional knitter myself (be jealous of my skills), this is the coolest thing. The image is only visible as you walk by the work, or if someone moves it for you. There's a link for the pattern if anyone feels like they are that talented. I don't think I am.

The NCC-USPS Goes Where No Mailbox Has Gone Before
By far the coolest functional geek art I've seen so far this year (yuk yuk), this Enterprise-inspired mailbox graces the home of a Reddit user's uncle. It has solar powered lights, which, sadly, I can't find any pictures of. I'm thinking of building one myself, if I wasn't so worried about the Romulans across the street blasting it to pieces.
